March 2004 HAT Meeting Minutes

The monthly HAT meeting on March 4th was held at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman, and was called to order by Second Vice President Sandy Shiver at approximately 7:10pm.

 

Minutes

The February meeting minutes were read by Di Hopkins, and were approved with one amendment: there will be no changes to membership dues.  The dues will remain $10 for individuals and $25 for families.

 

Officer/Committee Reports

Treasurer : Jenni Dougan

Please note that the club financial status is open to review  by all current members.

Scholarship: Sandra Shiver

The scholarship entry deadline is April 16th.  Mike Bernier has finished and printed requirements & applications.  John Ryan has written and sent information to channel 12 and a number of radio stations; he is also planning on sending the information to local newspapers and Channel 10 (KTEN). Debbie is to appear on Channel 12 (KXII) at noon on March 8th.  Info needs to be forwarded to the extension office so that they can take phone inquiries.

Current arrangements for the first HAT show of the year on April 18th Loy Lake Arena:

Registration 9 am, Show starts 10 am.

Registration Desk – Sandra Shiver and Sharla Stephenson

Show Secretary – Mike Bernier

We still need volunteers for Ring Steward, Gatekeeper, Announcer, and Equipment set up.  Contact Debby or Sally if you are interested.

 

HAT Youth Show has been set for June 12th at Loy Lake.  This follows the Texas A&M clinic on June 3rd and 4th, and will include a Horsemanship and Trail clinic by Jerry Snipes

 

HAT Futurity is set for October 2nd at Loy Lake.

 

Old Business

Garage Sale:  Item pickups were discussed.  Volunteers to work are John Ryan, Jenni Dougan, Greg and Debbie Van Nurden, Steve Rogers.  Item pricing was also discussed.

Loy Lake Arena Use:  The arena is being modified, so it is temporarily unavailable.  A list of usage rules has been sent to Bob Schnitker & Bart Lawrence to be approved.

Education Program:  The education program is still under much discussion.  It was suggested that we might have Greg Darnel, of Darnel bits, for a bit clinic and a talk on the history of bits.  The location of Whitesboro was also discussed.

 

New Business

HAT Budget: Sandra Shiver suggested a budget forecast should be put in motion for HAT, How many members dues does it take to cover the primary cost of  HAT ? etc.

PRCA Rodeo: Robin Chouteau offered HAT the opportunity to advertise in the program and to share a booth with the 4H group at the PRCA Rodeo Fri. 23rd & Sat 24th April at Loy Lake Arena.  HAT could also place a business-sized advertisement in the rodeo program for $50.  The free booth was motioned for and passed, all in favor.

4-H: There will also be a 4H open show April 3rd at Loy Lake Arena.  The Saddlebound 4H group kindly donated some ribbons to the HAT show committee; this is greatly appreciated.

HAT Website: Trudy White discussed the HAT web page, classified advertising was mentioned.

 

Special Guest

Harold Knight, Grayson County Fair Committee President, invited HAT to participate in the fair being held October 7th-10th at Loy Lake.  He suggested holding an event on Saturday, October 9th, which will be the week following the HAT Futurity.  Harold also invited HAT to participate in the Grayson County Fair Committee meeting on March 11th at 11.45 am.  Any ideas please contact Debbie Van Nurden or Sally Thomason.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm and newsletters distributed.
