May 2005 Meeting Minutes

The meeting on May 5^th was called to order at 7:20 PM.

There were no new members or guests present.

Minutes from April’s meeting were approved as read by Sandra Shiver. The treasurer’s report was given by Jenni Dougan, who proudly announced a record bank balance as a result of the proceeds generated by the Spring Show, Mare/Foal Clinic, Stallion Silent Auction, and other fund raising efforts as well as additional memberships and HAT Chat subscriptions.

The success of the Spring Show was celebrated with a report from Sally Thomason, Show Committee Chair. The show was what horse shows are supposed to be – FUN! Sally acknowledged the help of members and non-members who contributed to a great show. Sandra Shiver read a list of volunteers. Discussion followed regarding improvements. Members voted unanimously to make no rule changes. Pre-registration and a dedicated gatekeeper position were discussed.

Roger and Jenni Dougan found two nice outdoor lounge chairs left at the arena. If you left your chairs or know who they belong to, please call (903)476-5824.

Scholarship report was give by Sandra Shiver. The selection committee date was re-scheduled due to illness. The scholarship will be presented at the Youth Clinic on June 18^th at Loy Lake Arena. A donation to the fund was presented from Dr. Katie Hayes. Ideas for promoting the scholarship were discussed by all members.

Old Business:

• The Youth Clinic & Show chaired by Gerry Snipes is titled “Taking Command of Your Horse”. Gerry urges parents to come and learn with your kids! The FREE clinic registration starts at 8:00am with the clinic from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. The FREE show starts promptly at 12:30pm. Volunteer sign ups, showbill, and awards were discussed.
• A motion was made, seconded, and approved to purchase a crock-pot for the club use.

New Business:

• The Grayson County Courthouse now requires a $100 deposit for meetings with the check being held unless there are damages or cleanup required after the meeting. It was moved, seconded, and voted to continue holding HAT meetings at the courthouse with the exception of special meetings. Note, someone will be at the south door until 7:15pm. If you arrive later please call (903) 814-4484 for admittance.
• Mike Scully has a 4’x 4’x 8’ trailer in need of repair that he will donate to the club for the storage of concession supplies. After discussion of how repairs could be made, it was moved, seconded, and approved to accept the trailer.
• A social event at Sally Thomason’s was decided on for the June meeting with guests bringing a dish or snacks.
