April 2006 Meeting Minutes

The meeting on April 6th was called to order at 7:10p.m. by President Roger Dougan.

 

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read by Donna Franus.  The treasurer’s report was approved as presented by Jenni Dougan.

 

Summary of Board Planning Meeting – To be eligible for the new Year-End High Point Award the participants must meet 3 criteria:

1.      Single rider/horse combination used all year.

2.      Enter 1 halter and 3 performance classes each show and

3.      Participate in 60% of our shows (3 out of the 4 scheduled).

A $200 gift certificate will be given to the winner of the 17 and under class and the same for the 18 and over class.

 

Committee Reports:

·        Scholarship: to date, 4 scholarship applications have been received.

·        Shows and Events: The 1st show is set for April 15th. A volunteer sign up sheet is available for those who are able to help.

 

Old Business:

·        Youth Clinic – set for May 6th with instructor Gerry Snipes.  The clinic will start promptly at 9am.  Sign ups should be completed before nine for all riders.

·        Trail Ride Report – The trail ride is set for May 20th at Lake Ray Roberts.  Please bring your own brown bag lunch.  We will also have some foods to share.

·        Club Sponsorship – New sponsors added: RG Trailers and Team Bonner Chevrolet

 

New Business:

·        Advertising – A post card with all of our show dates and activities for the next few months will be mailed to present and past members of HAT.

·        Education – A motion was passed to work with the Grayson County Extension Office to coordinate and promote equine education.  Items still to be worked out are selecting a HAT member to serve as a liaison with the Extension office, and developing a written proposal to them which affirms our intentions, identifies common goals and offers ideas toward reaching those goals.

·        NAIS - Debby Van Nurden spoke about the National Animal Identification System, the growing concerns regarding its implementation and its potential impact to horse owners.  It was discussed that HAT should come up with a position statement regarding NAIS.

 

Program:

·        What is Your Laminitis IQ? Quiz and presentation – Sandra Shiver handed out a quiz to be answered about laminitis to start off the session. We all found out that we did not know enough about laminitis. We discussed each answer in depth and we all learned a great deal. Thank you Sandra for putting this together we all enjoyed ourselves.

 

Communications and Tid-Bits  o–o

·        Thank you to all members that took the time to donate materials and stuff plastic eggs for the Easter egg hunt to be held during the show.

·        We received two thank-you cards from the Silver Saddle 4-H club in Denton County to thank us for advertising their April 2nd show by printing their showbill in our newsletter.

 

The meeting was adjourned and HAT Chats were passed out for distribution.
