July 2006 Meeting Minutes

by Donna Franus

The meeting on July 7th was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Roger Dougan.

The HAT Executive Committee announced a change in format for our meetings.  We will have a presentation/program of an equine related topic at the beginning of the meeting.  A brief club business agenda will follow.

Program

Sandra Shiver put on an excellent program called “Hoof Basics” which was a follow-up to her “What is Your Laminitis IQ Quiz” presented at the April meeting.  Knowledge of how the hoof is constructed gives owners and caretakers an understanding of potential problems and underlines the need for frequent attention to our horses’ hooves.  With the slide show and graphics she presented we all learned quite a bit more about the horses’ hoof.  Lively discussion followed with input from all members and guests.  Thank you, Sandra for putting this together.  We all enjoyed it.

Club Business

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read by Donna Franus.  The Treasurer’s report was approved as presented by Jenni Dougan.

We had both new and familiar faces at our meeting.  Welcome (and welcome back) to Joanne Kremer, Kevin Lutkenhaus, Malcolm McKoy, Don Miars, and Lois Short.  It was nice to see you.

·         Adult Clinic – A poll will be set up on the Yahoo group to discuss what types of training people want during an adult clinic.

·         Program Committee – We are looking for volunteers to do programs during our meetings and also some suggestions for more topics. A poll will also go out on the Yahoo group to see what kinds of topics the members would like to see in future programs.
