May 2007 Meeting Minutes

Before the meeting began we viewed pictures of the April 21st HAT show.

 

President Sandra Shiver called the meeting on May 3rd to order at 7:05 p.m. Guests and members introduced themselves to the group.

 

Announcements:

·         Contact Debby Van Nurden if you would like to attend a Desensitization Clinic – “How to Bomb Proof your Horse” with John Wiltsie on May 20th in Pilot Point.

·         J.P. Forget will hold a Reining school May 25th – 28th  in Collinsville.

·         The Texas Tech Horse Clinic will be held June 1st and 2nd at Loy Lake arena. 

 

Program:

“How to Teach Your Horse to Allow You to Mount from the Fence” presented by Mick Clark. Mick spoke briefly on how to get respect and softness from your horse and then played a video of Dennis Reis training a horse to stand by the fence for you to mount.

 

Club Business:

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read by Secretary Donna Franus. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented by Treasurer Jenni Dougan.

 

Scholarship - Sandra Shiver stated that the deadline for applications has passed. The scholarship committee will now review the applications and essays and decide on a finalist.

 

Many positive comments were received about our April 21st HAT show. This show was such a success due to so many people volunteering during the show.

 

A new item called “A Tip of the HAT” will be added to our newsletter to recognize people that make a special effort to help out our club.

 

Old Business:

·         Adult Horsemanship Clinic with Mick Clark – the improvement in the horses and their riders are remarkable! The dates set for the remaining sessions are May 5th and May 19th, and there will be a make-up day for March 31stwhich was rained out. The clinic is currently full, but is still accepting auditors. We have the ability to use Teddy Johnson’s Longview Ranch indoor arena if the weather is bad and his arena is available.

·         Mother’s Day Trail Ride/picnic lunch – the trail ride is scheduled for 10a.m. May 12th at Loy Lake picnic area

·         Family Riding/Schooling Day with Gerry Snipes – scheduled for May 17th 6 p.m. at the TQHA Arena.

·         Youth Clinic with Clinician Gerry Snipes – 9 a.m. June 9th at Loy Lake Arena. Sarah Ferguson is planning to help out.

·         Robin Chouteau is working to get a judge for the October or September show.

·         Fall Futurity – October 20th at the TQHA Arena. A rain date has been reserved for October 27th.

·         Banners – Robin Chouteau ordered a new 4’ x 6’ banner for the club.

 

New Business:

·         A date for the next Executive Meeting was set for Thursday, June 14th.

 

The meeting was adjourned and HAT Chats were passed out for distribution to the surrounding communities.
