June 2008 Meeting Minutes
by Michael Bernier for Michele Beard
President Sandra
Shiver called the meeting on June 5th to order at 7:10pm. There were
no guests or new members.
Program: Sandra discussed the presentation of the scholarships at
the Youth Clinic and about this year’s recipients, Rachel Newman and Shea Cox. She
also read the winning essays, which were very well received.
Announcements:
· HAT Founder and Past President Debby Van
Nurden suffered a
fractured pelvis and other injuries in a fall from her horse while on a jumping
course May 17th. She credits the use of her safety helmet for
avoiding more severe head injury. We all wish Debby a speedy recovery!
· Brittany Rigg, a competitor in the 12
& Under division at the April show, recently had
her horse euthanized due to a fractured leg. We offer our deepest sympathies to

Minutes – Due to their length, the April and May
meeting minutes were not read aloud but instead left to the members to read on
their own as printed in the May/June newsletter. All minutes were approved as
written.
Treasurer’s Report – Sandra presented the report for Treasurer
Jenni Dougan, who was unable to attend. The report was approved as presented.
Scholarship – Sandra requested that HAT move to reserve
$500 of available funds toward the 2009 scholarship program. However, it was
pointed out that there was not a quorum of officers or board members present to
approve such a motion. Therefore, the request was tabled and will be placed on
the agenda for the July meeting.
Old Business:
·
Youth
Clinic – very well received, with 16 registered participants and much praise
for clinician Mick Clark.
·
AQHA
Points & Incentives for Open Shows – although a decision was made
previously to postpone action until the 2009 show season, Sandra continues to
receive inquiries regarding whether HAT will be offering these new classes this
year. Due to AQHA show requirements, the only opportunity to add classes would
be at the October 18th show. Sandra will contact AQHA for more
information. Open issues include how to manage separate paperwork and
locating/hiring a carded judge for the event. One bonus learned is that HAT
could sell AQHA memberships at the event and receive a fee for each one sold.
New Business:
·
June
14th Show – Robin Chouteau reviewed final plans for the upcoming
show. Ann Sanderson has offered to serve as “guest judge” alongside show judge
Gaye Hixon for the Gaited Horse class. Signs will be placed and setup work done
at the arena the evening before the show.
·
PPP –
HAT will now participate in the Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA)’s
Palomino Performance Program (PPP), an incentive program that allows owners of
PHBA-registered horses to obtain performance points for competing in open
shows.
·
HAT Chat Subscribers and Advertisers – due
to the disruption in the printing schedule, all newsletter subscribers and
advertisers will receive one-month extensions. Mailing labels for subscribers
have already been adjusted with new ending dates.
The meeting was
adjourned and HAT Chats were
distributed.
