July 2008 Meeting Minutes

President Sandra Shiver called the meeting on July 3rd to order at 7:09pm. Members attending included Sandra Shiver, Robin Chouteau, Mike Bernier, Roger Dougan, Gerry Snipes, Kathy Bagnell, Mike Scully and Michele Beard. There were no guests or new members. The meeting was held outdoors because a key to the courthouse was not available.

 

Program: No program was presented.

 

Announcements:

·       Saturday, July 5th is the last session of the Adult Horsemanship Series taught by Mick Clark. Payment up front encouraged good attendance with progress from each rider.

·       August 9 – HAT Open Show at Crossfire Ranch, Calera OK

·       October 18 – HAT Futurity and Open Show at Crossfire Ranch, Calera OK

 

Minutes: Mike Bernier took the minutes in Michele Beard’s absence. They are published in the July 2008 HAT CHAT.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Roger Dougan presented the report in the absence of Treasurer Jenni Dougan. It was discussed and additional expenses were mentioned. Attendees of the meeting were pleased with our current financial status.

 

Old Business:

·       Scholarship Reserve – A quorum was present to vote on a scholarship reserve for next year. The motion was made and passed. 

·       Scholarship Committee – Gerri Snipes, Robin Chouteau and Kathy Bagnell agreed to be on the youth scholarship committee chaired by Sandra Shiver to determine 2009 recipient.

·       High Point Buckles – Magazine photograph was shown of buckles for end of year winners. It was agreed to give 4-6 weeks before the December meeting to order. It is estimated that the cost would be around $500. Reserve prizes were discussed with the cost needing to be determined.

·       June 14 Show – Was well attended and all had a good time. Still receiving positive feedback on our shows.

o   A first-time incidence took place with a tie for high point. It was decided that a coin toss will determine a winner for future occurrences. An embroidered boot bag was acquired to award the additional winner.

o   AQHA rules are followed at HAT shows. Exhibitors are reminded to be aware of the rules as non-compliance will result in disqualification. Examples are and instead of split reins, single roping reins were being used. Mentioning this fact was suggested in the show opening script and putting on the Showbill.

o   Two volunteers are needed to put out and pick up direction signs.

o   We had an exhibitor earn points for the Palomino Performance Program (PPP) of the Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA). The show manager completed the exhibitor’s show report card and provided to the exhibitor for submission to PHBA. To be eligible for the PPP:

1) The horse must be registered with the Palomino Horse Breeders of America

2) The exhibitor/owner must be a current member.

3) The enrollment form must be completed and filed with the PHBA association for each year of participation.

4) Year applies January 1 to December 31 of the current year.

5) Must pay a $15.00 a year (non-refundable) enrollment fee to PHBA.

6) Nominated horse(s) must be PHBA registered.

7) Nomination form(s) requests need to be sent to the PHBA.

·       Trail Ride – A ride was planned for Sunday, 7/6 at 6:00 p.m. at Loy Lake Park. It was posted on the Yahoo discussion site.

 

New Business:

·       August 9th Open Show

o   Selection and acquisition of High Point Awards and other prizes were discussed.

o   Walk and Whoa will be placed.

o   Volunteers need to be finalized for August 9th show.

o   Donations and sponsorships to be solicited.

o   Exhibitor evaluation form will be handed-out at registration to get feedback on our shows.

o   Sandy Blackstone has donated trophies which can be refurbished and awarded. Kathy Bagnell will retrieve them.

·       Bombproof (Desensitization) Clinic Proposal

o   John Wiltsie and John Smith of the McKinney Mounted Police in conjunction with HAT will offer a Bomb Proofing Clinic in Pilot Point in conjunction with HAT. The fee will be $50 per horse/rider for members and $60 for non-members. Date is to be determined, with Sunday preferred. To make it mutually profitable, we need to guarantee 12 partake in the class. The instruction may be taken with horse in hand.

·       Approved AQHA Classes at HAT Open Shows

o   HAT will offer approved AQHA classes at our open shows for AQHA points and incentive funds starting in 2009.

o   The show committee will meet July 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Robin Chouteau’s home to discuss August 9th show and 2009 planning.
